have you seen it?

January 30, 2007

my mojo? i’ve been looking for it for days now! i searched all weekend long and no luck! i almost caught up to it a couple of times but i just couldn’t reach it! {big sigh}! i just feel as though i am so lacking with my creativity these days. i’m working so hard on wendy’s workshop assignments, i am able to get them done, no problem, i just can’t seem to get as creative as i want to be. i filled 4G’s of cf cards this weekend!

does is this making any sense? any advice greatly appreciated!

wendy’s advice to me was to grab my camera and go out and shoot everything! so, i tried that. i was just messing around with the tree shot…. zooming while the shutter was open! and the moon has been so visible all day long this past week.

Julie C Butler: The mojo looks good to me Kathy - these are amazing .. how'd you do that with the tree?? Great shots! Love all of them!!

CarrieB: Wow. I love the artistic quality of these photos! Assignment #2 forced me to look at "stuff" with a creative eye and it has been difficult for me. You have such a great eye!I'd say you got your mojo back!

the best compliment…….

for me today came from anna, a very talented photographer! she left this comment on my blog. it has totally made my day!
“These pictures are VERY well done – they are VERY similar in style to Frederique’s (and I notice she’s linked as a fave of yours, too!) I think you have a LOT of talent, Kathy! “

WOW! thank you, thank you! it means so much to me to be praised by my peers! and to be compared to frederique’s style! thank you! she is definitely an inspiration to me!

so, what’s a post without pictures. i feel like i’ve lost my mojo at the moment so i don’t have anything new to share. these are a few of my favorite from a shoot that i did recently. this is such a great family. i’ve done photos for them several times now and they are very comfortable with me! especially the kids! they are so great. they really have fun and that just makes my job so much easier! i really like them in b&w. no colour…. something different…. for me!

frederique: Saw these on 2peas and really liked them. It is a bit different than what I am used to from you but really really like it..And i am digging your b&w!

jen: excellent shots!

i am doing a photography/mentoring workshop right now (not sure if i’ve mentioned that or not before) with photographer wendy schulz from arizona. she’s gearing up to start her next session, which starts in february and still has a few spots left.

she’s a wealth of photography and photoshop information…. with lots of personality! it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or more advanced! she’s always there to answer all of our questions. and, i’ve made some new friends with other fabulous photographers who are taking the course along with me. so, you see, it’s a win-win situation…. you’ll learn more photography and photoshop skills and well as make some new friends!

i totally recommend this workshop!

…only a little. we’ve been skiing the past two days and my arms are a little stiff, mostly my right one because i fell! yes, i fell while i was standing and talking to derek. my arm hit his pole, hard! i’ve got a bit of a bruise but i’ll survive!

the weather wasn’t the best. it snowed over night so we had about 15cm of new snow the first day. fabulous for skiing! lots of fog too, near the top of the mountain so visibility was very limited. the second day it was really mild so the snow got very “sticky”. but what fun we had!

emily did great! she has always been such a go-getter when it comes to skiing. we put tyler into a lesson on the first day. he’s never done it before. he did very well. he’s my cautious little monkey….. takes after me! :) he skiied with us on the second day, though only on the bunny hill. i’m so proud of him!

here are a few pictures from our ski trip. these are all from my p&s so don’t mind the quality!

Anna: So cute! These are awesome! Can't believe you took them with a p&s!

frederique: I love the first and last. I had to LOL!!!! i LOVE skiing and skiing with my kids is the best...

the lomo effect

January 17, 2007

this is another very cool ps technique that i found this week over at ilp. it imitates the pictures that come from the lomo camera. a really cheap russian camera that made really “bad” pictures…. which has it’s own charm…… over saturated colour, very high contrast and some fuzzyness. An Austrian company now replicates the original lomo (leningradskoye optiko mechanichesckoye obyedinenie…a.k.a. leningrad optical mechanical union)

lomo script – just save the file into program files> adobe> photoshop> presets> scripts. you will need to close your ps and then re-open. to find the script, look under file> scripts. voila. have fun!

lomo step-by-step instructions : these are great instructions that you could easily make into an action! have fun playing!

i like the colours and saturation of the script better but you have more control with the step-by-step. (i haven’t played with the layers in the script yet but i’m sure it has this potential too!)

i’d love to see what you create! leave a comment to let me know where i can find yours!
