i’ve been practicing again. i’m no where even close to where i want to be with flash but it is fun seeing what i can come up with. emily was a willing subject the other night so i got out the flash and tried a variety of things.
note: there was absolutely no thought put into the composition on these at all. it was all about the flash.

i really need some help here. if you can offer any advice, let’s hear it!

here’s the run down:
1. no flash, natural light coming in through huge window to my right
2. flash bounced to my left
3. flash bounced off the ceiling
4. flash bounced from behind me – this one is definitely my favorite. i even got catch lights!

there has been a rash of photo stealing going on out there in the internet world. i know it’s nothing new but it is starting to affect some people that i know online. it really makes me sick to think that some sicko out there is stealing pictures of someone else’s children and then posting them on message boards and places like myspace, claiming them as their own. it’s just sick.

it’s WRONG to ‘right click’ and save a picture that’s not yours! it’s STEALING!

watermarking your photos is so important! that is why i plaster my ‘kathy paton photography’ all over the pictures that i post here. but you know, that doesn’t stop some people!

i just don’t want this to happen to me. i am considering making my blog private. what that means is that you will have to be ‘invited’ by me to have access to it. let me know through an email if you’d like to keep visiting. i really hate to do this but it just might happen.

trying to get some sun flare. i got just a little. i’m sending out a HUGE thanks to sarah and jim for being the only ones willing to be my subjects for this experiment. it’s pretty hard to get good sun flare. i tried several time last night and these are the best ones i could come up with.

check out the bokeh on this first one! isn’t it great! it was taken with my 70-300mm zooom. i was pleasantly surprised by that when i opened these up on my pc today.
{and no, he doesn’t have a blueish purple beard, that’s just a bit of lens flare }

the last two here were taken using my 85mm. check out that lens flare! i had a teerrible time getting the colour right, especially on the second one. thanks for looking!

these were all taken with my 70-300mm zoom. man, do i have to practice with this lens. it’s very awkward and i had a hard time trying to keep it steady. i’m just so used to my primes.
