beautiful weather always draws us directly to the lake after work. our summers are too short to not enjoy every possible minute that we can out on the lake. and besides, when you have a boat and you’re paying moorage to keep it at the marina, you want to make sure you use it enough to get your moneys worth out of it, right?
so, tonight we headed out to the lake. we made a couple of stops on the way, to pick up dinner and snacks. phone our friends annette and paul to see where they were and to let them know that we were coming. all is great!
the kids helped lug everything down to the boat. derek began taking off the cover. i helped tyler secure his life jacket. ran into some other friends who were just going boating too and chatted with them for a few minutes while derek started ours up and let it run for a minute. said goodbye to our friends, got into the boat and…………….. nothing!
we weren’t going anywhere.
we had power. and the motor was revving when he gave it gas but we weren’t moving!
derek tinkered with the lever a few minutes and tried to see if it was a loose wire connection or something like that. then he got out all of his tools (yes, we’ve learned from experience to ALWAYS have tools on-board the boat) and started taking things apart. after half an hour and feeling very frustrated, he finally says that he thinks it must be the transmission and that he can’t fix it.
bummer! transmission is probably going to cost a couple thousand dollars! just great. and we were pulling this boat out of the water tonight anyway because we’ve bought a second boat and we are selling this one. confused, i am!
so, derek pushes the button to raise the leg to see if that is working. and tyler yells out,
"DAD! there’s no motor there!"
"what?"
"there’s no motor there!"
this is what we saw
it’s supposed to look like this
that’s right. no prop!
whether it fell off (which is highly unlikely) or someone took it off, we just don’t know. but it’s gone. derek dove under where the boat sits to look for it but he couldn’t see too much because there’s so much mud and silt on the bottom of the lake.
explains why we weren’t moving! and it’s a heck of alot cheaper to repair than a transmission! and just when you think it can’t get any worse, after derek pulled the boat out of the water, the trailer got not one but TWO FLAT TIRES!
happy hump day!
