marcus : RAD GRAD 2010

November 21, 2009

i’d like to introduce you all to marcus. he’s another RAD GRAD 2010 rep for kp photography. when i met marcus for the first time, i was very impressed by his level of maturity and his sense of modesty. he was very inquisitive about what the RAD GRAD campaign was all about – he asked alot of questions. ALOT!  and i like that!

i asked marcus to tell me a bit a bit himself and this is what he wrote: individuality is huge, as is standing up for the little guy. i can’t stand bullies. music is huge in my life. my favorite genre is jazz, after that its either rap of techno. respect is huge for me. and i believe that you have to earn it. and i think that people often hide inside their comfort zone. i like to explore things that may scare other people. i like expressing idea’s that may offend other people. (but i try to express them in a way that will not offend.) i just like making people think a little more deeply about life.

he also told me that he didn’t photograph very well.

with all due respect, i beg to differ!

(i’m stepping a little outside my comfort zone and posting his images in black & white – it’s been awhile since i’ve posted any on here.)

congratulations to you both! check your email! and thanks to everyone for leaving a comment.

if you are in the photography business or thinking about getting into it, this is one of the best photography books you’ll ever read…. and it’s not even really about photography. at least not in the technical sense.

Fast Track Photographer give away

it all started as an idea.

an idea to “flatten” the photography world.

and to be completely honest, i was a little bit skeptical when i first heard about it.

but then, that all changed.

about 18 months ago, two photographer friends, keri of sweet whispers photography and julie c. butler, started telling me all about how they had just become founders with dane sanders fast track photographer group.

“a what?”, i asked…. “a founder? what is a founder and what the heck is a fast track photographer?”

well, before i knew it, dane sent me an email, introducing himself and letting me know that he was available to answer any questions i may have about the the ftp group. so, because i had nothing to lose, i replied to his email. i told him a little bit about myself and my background in photography and then i asked a TON of questions. i was a bit surprised when he replied so soon, and especially when he answered each and every one of my questions with such sincerity and conviction. but i still wasn’t convinced that i should become a founder. after more questions, more emails and one phone conversation,  i knew that i wanted to become a founder and that the fast track photographer group was a community that i needed to join. becoming a founder with fast track photographer has been one of the best investments that i have ever made for myself and my business.

dane is one of the most inspirational and amazing mentors that i have ever had. i caught up with him last week when he was in shawnigan lake , teaching at image explorations. he kindly autographed my last two copies of fast track photographer and i would like to give them away. i’ll even make it easy to enter. all you have to do is leave a comment below and tell me what your favorite thing is about summer.

and spread the word. tell all your friends to enter too. comments will close on tuesday.

happy summer!

Sarah: Oh boy!! My favorite thing about summer, not having a set schedule everyday, we get up when we want, go to bed when we want and the gorgeous evening light!!

Cathy Empey: Kathy! I am so excited about meeting you, and meeting Dane Sanders in October. I just want October to hurry up and get here, but then that means the 7th of October I become another year older! LOL. My favourite thing about summer is being able to spend time outside with my family! It is so much fun this year! I think this has been our best summer yet! I hope yours will be too.

Danielle Fletcher: What a wonderful giveaway! I'd have to say, what I love about summer is the feeling of Hope. Summertime brings possibilities, ideas about getting away to a personal paradise and spending time with someone you love. The excitement and anticipation of wondering, where will we go together and what will we do? And what amazing memories will we take with us?

Mandie Haberman: What a great blog competition with a great prize! Thanks for hosting! My favorite thing about summer is the gathering of family and friends. Through the colder months in Wisconsin, we tend to turn into hermits in our homes- but when the grass is green and the sunshine is warm, we all come out of our shells and invite old and new friends to join together for barbecues, picnics, holiday parties, outdoor festivities, and neighborhood walks. Yay for seeing friends and family!

Chelsea Hudson: well considering i live in phoenix in the summer, it has no longer become a favorite season. :) and with that said, my favorite thing about summers in arizona is the ability to drive north to the cooler air, green trees, tall pines and mountains and camp!!!

Tara: My favourite thing about summer is be able to shoot outdoors without getting frostbite!

Carrie V: thanks to Dane and twitter, I found you! My favorite thing about the summer is having more time with my kids. No schedules, no tests to study for...although there is more laundry thanks to the swimming pool... I look forward to reading your blog, Kathy.

Jana: Fresh berries, white wine, 10pm sunsets... and getting to spend time with a fab couple on their wedding day almost every weekend.

Jen Schleicher: What a wonderful thing you are doing :) I have been itching to get this book! I love escaping the Arizona heat and traveling in the summer. Reconnecting with old friends, seeing new sights, and visiting loved ones.

Sheila Carson: I live in the Northwest where it rains A LOT! My favorite thing about summer is the sunshine and beautiful blue skies. The Northwest is a beautiful place, but it's even more beautiful when the sun is shining! Thanks for this contest! I'm just starting out and would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to win a copy of Dane's book!

Gary: Summer Fav is spending a few weeks vacationing and driving all over the Pacific Northwest and B.C... that and good seasonal microbrews :)

Kim: My favorite thing about summer....not having to make school lunches!!!! and the laid backness of it all:)

Jennifer: Hi! Thank you for offering this giveaway. My favorite thing about summer is swimming!! My son and I (and usually my husband, too,) are in the pool EVERY DAY.

Jenna: what a great giveaway. Favorite summer thing. Enjoying long summer walks with my family discovering tiny things to learn from.

Dane Sanders: You're such a leader Kathy! I'm so impressed with the way you invest in others. Awesome.

Kristin: I love that summer offers a (slight) break from the craziness of the rest of the year.

Kelli: I've got his site bookmarked! I don't fully get the founder idea, but I'll check it out. I'm taking Karen Russell's photography class right now and am loving learning all about my camera.

Catherine: I love the long days of summer spending time with my husband and young boys...relaxing, having fun...just being together. Thanks so much for an awesome giveaway!

Laurie Terry: That book looks very interesting. I'm going to have to check it out.

at the end of may, i photographed the Performing @ Home VI dress rehearsal.  just click on the image below to link to the full gallery of images from the rehearsal.
